Mission & Outreach

Missions Committee: The Missions Committee organizes mission and outreach opportunities throughout the year. While the focus of this committee is on serving God by serving others, this committee functions to provide the congregation with opportunities to be in service to others. Our outreach efforts impact the lives of people within our local community, throughout the state and nation, and on a global level. This committee has worked with a variety of groups in the past including preparing book-bags for elementary school, assisting local food banks, hosting special events for veterans, celebrating Christmas with Palmetto Development Center, and supporting impoverished children through Samaritan’s Purse.

Salkehatchie Summer Service: While SSS is a ministry unique to The UMC of South Carolina, it is close to the heart of Hampton-Varnville Charge. SSS is a service-oriented ministry that empowers the youth of South Carolina to serve communities throughout the state. This ministry began under the leadership of Rev. John Culp while he was serving the Hampton-Varnville Charge. What began as an effort to enable a group of youth to serve a family in our community has grown to empower thousands of youth to serve communities throughout out state each year. Hampton UMC continues to support this ministry by welcoming youth back every summer. Our ministry to these students is to make sure they are fed, have supplies they need, and to worship with them.

Facebook: Social Media is the newest trend in communication Hampton UMC is utilizing this technology to interact with members of our faith community. “Like” Hampton United Methodist Church on facebook to keep up with current events and programs.

Methodist Mini Meals: One of HUMC’s newer ministries, Methodist Mini Meals is a program designed to provide people in need with enough food to last a week (or until they can visit one of the local food banks that we support). Anyone can help with this ministry by purchiasing or packaging these bags, which include spaghetti noodles and sauce, rice, soups, and beans.

Weekly Sermon Podcast: Each week the sermon is posted online for our homebound members or for those members who were unable to attend the service that week. While we would like to encourage you to listen to our podcasts on iTunes or BuzzSprout.com, we would also like to invite you to participaste in this ministry by serving on the team that transfers the records onto the website.

Bereavement & Congregational Care: Everyone gets sick from time to time and could use the support of their friends and family. Some of the ways Hampton UMC supports one anbother is to be in prayer, senda card, make a phone call, or pay a brief visit to those who are not well. When the unfortunate happens Hampton UMC is intentional in providing care and comforting families in mourning. Our ministry to these families includes prayer, preparation of meals, and providing a location and support for funeral services.

Mothers Morning Out: Mother’s Morning Out is a ministry designed to share the love of Jesus Christ to the children of our community. It is intended for children between fifteen months through five years of age. Daily programming includes faith-based activities, stories, and music that educate children about the good news of Jesus Christ. MMO is offered from September through May and its operationg hours are 9:00-12:00 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
