Spiritual Formation

Sunday School: Hampton UMC has a well-established Sunday school ministry that offers scriptural study for people of all ages. Classes are available to children and youth that utilize age-appropriate curriculum. There are several classes, as well, that are relevant to all adults. Sunday school classes are held every Sunday morning, 10:00-11:00, in the sanctuary, fellowship hall, or church annex.

Kid’s Connect: A spiritually formative program designed for children between the ages of three through fifth grade. Kid’s Connect provides an environment for children to grow in their knowledge of the Christian faith and to experience God’s love for them while enjoying fellowship with one another. Kid’s Connect is playfully constructed with Bible stories, devotionals, and faith-based games/activities. Each week the children learn a song or drama that they occasionally present in worship. Kid’s Connect meets every Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:00 during the school year.

Vacation Bible School: A church-wide favorite, VBS is a week-long program during the summer that provides Bible-based learning through stories, songs, crafts, drama, and fun and games.  Each year, the activities are centered on a common theme – anything from the Wild West to Outer Space.  HUMC has a tradition of hosting VBS in the evening hours to allow for working adults to assist.  While the program is geared towards pre-school and elementary aged children, opportunities to participate abound for youth, adults and seniors, making this a church-wide fellowship event.

Hampton Student Ministry: A variety of programs are offered to students in 6th-12th grade. United Methodist Youth Fellowship, or UMYF, is held on Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:30. UMYF offers teenagers an opportunity to socialize within a Christian context and to share a meal. During the UMYF hour the Middle School Students (6th-12th) and the High School Students (9th-12th) divide into their respective age groups for an age appropriate devotion. HSM also offers teenagers opportunities to go on spiritual formation retreats, service-oriented summer camps, and other fun trips throughout the year. Collectively, the Student Ministry programs assist students in the development of their spiritual growth and the discovery of their role within the community of faith and to the world.

Young Adult Minsitry: One of the greatest areas of growth at Hampton UMC has been among younger adults between the ages of 20 and 35. The Young Adult Ministry consists of programs and fellowship aimed at assisting these young adults in their faith formation. Also, the Young Adult Ministry seeks to empower our young adults to establish their unique placement within our faith community.

Adult Ministry: The Adult Ministry at Hampton UMC nurtures the spiritual journeys of our adults in all walks of life. Some programs may inculde small group studies focused on specific topics of interest, be it family life or wordly issues, while other programs offer fun and fellowship for adults throughout the community.

Young at Heart: One of the most significant programs in the Hampton-Varnville Charge is the Young at Heart Ministry which meets every fourth Wednesday at noon in the Varnville UMC fellowship hall for a meal, fellowship, and devotional message.

Ladies Club: The Ladies Club is an active and vibrant ministry that assists women of Hampton UMC in their spiritual development and lends support to other church programs. The Ladies Club gathers on a regular basis for fellowship, prayer, devotion, and spirited conversation. Among their activities are an annual “clean the kitchen”, a prayer-partner minsitry, a card ministry, assisting the Men’s Club iwth their events, and a new coffee hour on Thursday mornings at 10:00.

Men’s Club: The Men’s Club meets for prayer, fellowship, and planning of their upcoming projects. They have a yearly chicken BBQ in the Spring and a fish fry in the Fall. The money raised from thse events goes toward educational scholarships and to support other causes. They also host dinners for the ladies of our community throughout the year.
