Worship Opportunities

Worship Committee: The worship committee works with the pastor and leaders of music to establish worship services where the name of Jesus Christ is praised to the glory of God through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. One aim of this committee is to make sure congregants have opportunities to participate in services of worship. This committee functions to develop meaningful worship experiences that form the faith of believers, to strengthen the relationship shared with God through Jesus Christ, and to empower the people to live a life of witness by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Ushers: Our ushers have the privilege of greeting worshippers in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as they arrive for Sunday morning services. The ushers seat visitors, distribute the worship bulletins, collect the offering, and direct the congregatin during communion. The ushers also provide aids to the hearing impaired and offer assistance for any other special needs.

Acolytes: An acolyte, from theĀ Greek word “server,” assists the minister with certain duties during services of worship. While there is not a age requirement to acolyte, Hampton UMC encourages children to acolyte when they reach the third grade. Training is provided to anyone interested in serving in this role that includes lighting and extinguishing altar candles and assisting the pastor with Communion.

Nursery: Children are especially important to the life of the curch. While the presence of infants and toddleers is welcomed in our worship services, Hampton UMC provides a nursery for children under the age of three. The nursery is well staffed, safe, and is available every Sunday morning from 10:00 until 12:00. If a child should need a diaper or a bottle, please provide the nursery attendant with those items.

Children’s Sermon: The Children’s Sermon is a special moment in our worship service. These age appropriate teachings help small children feel significant and welcome during the “big church” experience. Not meant to be long or complex, the children’s sermon is a short teaching of 3-5 minutes. These teachings are led by an adult, have one primary theme, and are communicated in a way that children will understand and enjoy. And, they just so happen to be greatly enjoyed by adults, as well.

Music Ministry & Choir: Pslam 100:2 instructs, “Wprship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs.” The music ministry of Hampton UMC is designed to help others praise God. Everyone can contribute to our worship through music. There are opportunities for music participation for children, youth, and adults at HAmpton UMC. The adult choir leads the music at our Sunday morning worship service.
